Board Members Callout
Market Gallery is seeking new board members to commit time, energy and vision to shape and support the future development of the artist-led space.
Market Gallery is a contemporary visual arts organisation run by a Committee and Board. It was established in 2000 and presents a varied programme of contemporary exhibitions, projects and events. Market Gallery is a SCIO with charitable status, funded by Creative Scotland and Glasgow City Council. It also receives in kind support through premises provided by Reidvale Housing Association.
Market Gallery is currently at a critical point in its organisational development. The organisation is participating in the second year of a Pilot scheme funded and led by Creative Scotland that aims to examine the operations and futures of artist-run initiatives in Scotland. As part of this, the Board and Committee are undertaking a review of our governance and operational structures. This will affect various aspects of how Market Gallery is run, as well as the relationship between the Board and the Committee. In the immediate future we are committed to developing this relationship and the Pilot research through training, workshops and facilitated discussions. We are committed to dismantling inequality in our organisation and our communities, and as such are actively reviewing our operations in order to enact change that reflects our values of anti-racism and pro-equality.
As a Board member you will be expected to attend meetings, participate in sub-committee meetings and advocate for Market Gallery. You will have a strong body of work and experience in your particular area of expertise. As a trustee of the charity you will perform a vital role in its governance, fundraising, financial procedures and providing support to the voluntary Committee Members. Applicants with experience and knowledge in Finance, Law, Governance, Visual Arts Practice, Curating are encouraged to apply.
We encourage expressions of interest from a wide range of backgrounds. Board members can claim expenses for essential Board work, including travel costs to attend meetings. Applicants outwith Glasgow will also be considered and video call software can be used to attend meetings where this is helpful. Members would also be eligible for support for childcare to attend board meetings.
Detailed role specification and further information about this position can be found here.
Please submit expressions of interest (CV and cover letter) to the above email by midnight on Friday 23rd October. Phone/video interviews will be held in the week beginning Monday 2nd November, with a view to immediate start.
